Here we have another Slap precision exercise! This one has a little more funk than the others, and is a straight line. Click here for a link to the previous exercise. Remember, the purpose of these exercises is to get your slap technique down, nice and tight, without hitting other strings, etc. Focus, Padawan. Here [...]
These series of short books aren’t similar to most other Bass tuition books. They are a small archive of the things and ideas that have helped me become the Bass player I am today. A little insight into my way of doing things, if you will.
All those people that have asked me how I use the techniques used in my solo bass guitar songs have the information right here. The questions are answered.
Why “Not just another Bass guitar book”? Well, there are plenty of books out there that teach you how to play music, and a Bass, theoretically. Although these books are important (and I’d still recommend them!) they are quite lifeless, and seem to lack practical ideas. A lot are just repeated content from another book that was written the year before. Copy and paste tuition. This is more a book of practical ideas, and therefore not just another Bass guitar book.

And here is part two. That bothersome Bass solo! The Penthouse project. A UNIQUE learning opportunity. My new bands’ songs, broken apart for you to learn composition, writing and musicianship skills. Learn unique and original riffs from myself, and more importantly, why I write those specific riffs to the music being [...]
The Evolution of our free YouTube riffs! These exercises have been created by me, and have been tried and tested with all my students. A lot of those guys (and Gals!) are now out gigging, and are at a very good standard… In this lesson are eight exercises to get you slapping and popping like [...]
Here we have a slap exercise that has a consistent and constant rhythm throughout. The mutes and nature of the slap are creating a rhythmic feel about the line. This exercise will give you a good sense of timing if you play it along to a beat or a metronome. Try and keep everything as [...]
Ok, this lesson is a little less “funkier” than the first precision exercise. But needs must, and I designed this exercise to really help with your thumb targeting! G||———————– D||—-7-5————— A||———7 6 5-3-5— E||–5——————– As per usual, strike the strings clean with your thumb. It’s quick, so you’re going to have to be precise. If [...]
Slap precision exercise numero uno. G||—————————————————————5 D||——-4h5-X——5h7-X—————-4h5-X——5h7-X—- A||—————5h7———-3——————5h7————- E||–5-5—————————–5-5————————— With beginners and some intermediate players (those with not much slap and pop experience) I’ve noticed that they mostly get the pop down of slap and pop, but find the slap part a little more difficult. Especially as they move off of the E string, and [...]
