…making better bass players with Kris Rodgers A.K.A Dmanlamius
Learn how to ‘walk’ with the fingers, when using the bass guitar. Good basic technique, that everyone should know!
Please note that this is not ‘walk’ as in a ‘walking bass line’.
After you have watched this, move onto the beginner bass lessons.

Hey Kris! My husband bought me a bass for Christmas and I’ve been using your videos to learn but I’m having a slight problem. As I practice this technique I find that my nails are grazing the strings with my fingers. The sound doesn’t seem to be coming out in the amp but I worry I may damage the strings. My nails arent ‘dude’ short but they certainly arent long. I seem to play fine with a pick but I’d prefer to not use it. Any advice or suggestions not including chopping my nails off would be great. Thanks so much!

Hello, Camille!
Ok, don’t panic about this. If there is no sound coming through the amp via your nails, this is fine. You won’t damage the strings (think of what strings have to go through when people use picks!)
However, if it DOES start to come through the amp, or it causes you any pain, then focus on changing your technique slightly, so that you really are only hitting with the pads of your fingers.
But until then, all is fine

Hey Kris!
I bought a bass around a month and been trying to learn by myself by learning some basic songs (as I find it more interesting that way), but since I have discovered your website, I am still having fun learning the basics and I want to thank you for that !
Keep on the good job !
(The only bad thing i noticed about the website is its organization, had some issues finding my way around from a video to another, but no big deal)
