Great lessons!
One thing I see when you talk about where you plant the other fingers on your right hand is that it naturally lends itself to muting other strings. Do you actually mute that way?

You CAN mute that way, yes, but I tend to use my left hand for muting. It seems more comfortable for me!
My advice would be to experiment

I learnt from playing a lot of metal early on to try compund time signatures like 12/8
using the alternatvie picking pattern through the 1 and a,2 and a,3 and a. giving it triplet feel.
